■About World Food Programme
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations’ food assistance branch promoting eradication of hunger and poverty. On average, WFP reaches 90 million people in 80 countries each year, providing food assistance to those in greatest need such as victims of natural disasters and conflict, pregnant women and nursing mothers, malnourished children, orphans, the ill, and the elderly.
The Mother and Child Health and Nutrition activities deliver specialized nutritious foods to improve the nutritional intake of infants, children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers. The efforts seek to aid child development and support communities into the future. Children who are undernourished during the 1,000-day period from conception to their second birthday cannot reach full physical and mental capacity. The affects often stay with them for life and increase the risks of disease and early mortality.
Donations from this campaign are delivered to the official Japanese office of WFP, the Japan Association for World Food Programme.
